- In hard braking situations, the ABS system pumps your Mercedes Sprinter’s brakes to bring the vehicle to a quick and controlled stop. The ABS sensors on your Mercedes Sprinter are magnetic pickups that measure the speed of each wheel when braking, relaying the speed of each wheel to the ABS control module. If one wheel begins to slow faster than the others, the ABS control module releases brake fluid pressure to that wheel’s brake caliper, preventing wheel lock up and your Mercedes from uncontrollably skidding. Brake dust and other metallic road grime can collect on the ABS sensor pickup, preventing it from rear wheel speed, so it is recommended to remove and wipe away anything that has been collected on the ABS sensor pickup when replacing brake pads and rotors, being careful not to use any corrosive cleaner that could damage the sensor. When the any of the ABS sensors cannot read wheel speed, whether from being dirty or having failed, the ABS system will not function. The Mercedes 9069051001 ABS sensor is the original equipment left rear ABS sensor for the 2013-2018 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 and recommended replacement left rear ABS sensor for your Mercedes Sprinter.
